Alter the current template or use a new one because we are starting to support multiple platforms (Android, desktop, web interface is coming too).

Also implement dynamic language switch.

CrimsonFork commented 7 years ago

Can you tell what you are thinking about?

daniele-athome commented 7 years ago

The current site focuses solely on the Android app. We'd like something more showing of the other platforms too (they are a few now, but they will grow, also an empty slot for iOS with something like "looking for developers"). Not really sure exactly yet, we'll look for some templates.

CrimsonFork commented 7 years ago

May I make an example of what I am thinking of?

daniele-athome commented 7 years ago

Absolutely :-)

This is only the structure, ignore the colors and the frame around the content. It would be also very cool if everything below the header would be (almost) pure DOM.

daniele-athome commented 7 years ago

Nice skeleton. How do you think it could adapt for different device shapes (tablet and phone mainly)?

CrimsonFork commented 7 years ago

Well, on the second thought I recognize that it's a typical 2010 design with no modern parts in it. I'll try to think of something better until the next year.

@daniele-athome, what do you think about using a CMS?

daniele-athome commented 7 years ago

@daniele-athome, what do you think about using a CMS?

Not really an option because I'd like to make the websites just home pages (1 page, 2 at most) and the rest on other hosting services (whatever it is: wiki on GitHub, posts on Discourse, etc.).

tetris4 commented 7 years ago

+1 on the need for a new design.

I think the 'standard' nowadays is in the lines of Signal or Riot websites, so something similar would seem both modern and informative to potential users.

CrimsonFork commented 7 years ago

In my opinion, @tetris4, Riot's design is a bit too flat but actually you're right and that's somehow what I thought of.

CrimsonFork commented 7 years ago

I somehow missed this point, why can't you use a CMS for one single page?

I mean, you don't even have to set it up on the kontalk.org server, you can do it somewhere else and then just export the HTML file.

I suppose you know this, so what's the problem, I still don't get it.

daniele-athome commented 7 years ago

Why should I setup a cms just for one page? I'll just take a template and fill it with content. It's much more mantainable, it can be edited easily and the source code is cleaner: a cms is more or less generated code and it's not as much as flexible, thus it will require hacks and tricks to be introduced after the html export, which will complicate maintenance... Do I have to continue? :-) Happy new year by the way!

CrimsonFork commented 7 years ago

All right, sorry, happy new year!
