Do you have many images that look better from neuquant? Could you upload some?
In my experience latest pngquant almost always gives nicer results to the point I was considering removing pngnq altogether.
pngquant with small images does appear corrupted pixels (strangely colored) at least with version included in the latest beta (1.3.0.4) Also with big images neuquant get a smaller size than pngquant, 3-4% average, this is 3 or 4kb per image but when there are many images the difference is remarkable ..
Example small image:
Corrupted after optimize:
I'm unable to reproduce the problem in version 1.2.5.1.
pngquant (Median Cut) version is 1867 bytes, no corruption. Neuquant is 1912 bytes and has noticeable degradation (worse than 64-color pngquant image that weights 939 bytes).
The beta is obviously a bit experimental, I'll update its pngquant to latest stable version.
I have not tested with the latest stable version, but I think it does not hurt anyone keep NeuQuant as an option, let everyone choose the option that will best suit her needs. Just a suggestion, you are the developer.
Greetings and thank you for this fantastic software!
Please add an option to use NeuQuant as default, is very annoying change it with each image to be optimized
