Hello, i had a colleague designer take a look at it, he came up with 2 desktop versions. We could maybe vote for those or improve on them.

I would go for option 1. I find it cleaner and better organised (and less space consumed)
I would add a header per section maybe i.e. "Vaccination Data" and "Infection Data" (or similar) but I leave that up to you.
I think we are at risk of overloading users with too many different statistics in the "above-the-fold" content, which will make it harder for them to understand what is actually happening as far as the epidemic is concerned.
There are a few fundamental problems with the existing design in my opinion which aren't really resolved by either of the two proposed designs:
(i) It is difficult to see the overall trend in the epidemic, or its geographical distribution, without scrolling further down the page. As it stands, the map has been pushed below the fold, even on large screens. (ii) There is a lack of structure to the information we present. Information on infections, tests, hospitalisations, and vaccinations is all listed together on the same page, which makes it hard to find information on a specific topic of interest.
The order in which the different statistics in the top part of the page are presented could be improved. The number of cases and deaths are the two most critical pieces of information, in my opinion, and should be presented before information on how many people have been vaccinated.
It's currently difficult for users to see the trend of cases in their local area. That is something that most users will be interested in, so we should make that easier. We present a line chart of cases by county, but in order to isolate the line for a single county, it's necessary to turn off the lines for all the other counties individually. A bar chart of cases by county would also help show how the number of cases is changing in each region.
It would be good to make some improvements to how the information in the top part of the page is presented for now, but I'm inclined to think a more comprehensive redesign would be worth doing if the site is to remain useful over the coming months and years.
Fully agree. I was just proposing a "patch" because I am not sure if someone will have time to re-design the entire page. And indeed, displaying the vaccinations first is confusing.
I still believe though that option 1 (with the order you proposed) combined with some grouping (infection data and vaccination data in separate tables) would do.
Hi,
With the latest addition of the vaccination data, the section containing the different indicators at the top of the page is becoming a bit too crowded.
Would it not be better to have it re-arranged in a table with different headers? (i.e. vaccination data, testing data, hospitalisation data).
Just a suggestion,
Miguel
P.S: Great job guys!
