How to write for web.advent.today

Once you express interest, I'll mark this issue as taken & update website.

How to submit writing

If you have your own blog or want to use other platform like medium

If you don't have your blog or don't want to use other platform

What should I write about ?

Anything you are interested at the moment ! That being said, this is organized by a web developer and targeted to audience who also work in web industry. With that in mind, I welcome range of topics from productivity hacks to cool design you made. Just think of the kind of things you would show for lightning talk at meetups.

It really don't need to be full-on tutorial or super cutting edge technology 🙅 (f'ck em). If you had some fun writing it & enjoyed sharing with others, that's the most important part ✨.

Hi @kosamari! I'd love to write for this day.

Design to Grid: Going from Concept to Code

I'd like to write about how you can use CSS Grid to build out complex layouts. I'm really into more editorial layouts (example, example) and using grid to build them is a lot of fun!

Heya @helenvholmes just pop in here to remind you reserved day 19 on web.advent.today which is next week 😊

There has been few questions, so here are some answers in case you are wondering !

  1. Blog post doesn't have to be published on the day of reserved calendar date Already written & published ? great ! let me the link in this issue. Won't make it in time for reserved date ? no worries ! this is by no means a deadline. Just let me know when the blog post is ready and I'll update it. (... but if you know for sure you won't be able to write it this month, let me know. There were few people interested in taking vacant spot)

  2. It does't have to be a tutorial & doesn't have to be super polished. Remember if you had some fun writing it & enjoyed sharing with others, that's the most important part ✨

Hey @kosamari! Thanks for the heads' up!

Because I'm a terrible planner, I think I'd actually like to swap out my topic and reference something I've already written—if that's okay; if it doesn't fit in the line up, very happy to give the chance to someone else!

Type is Your Right!:

As front end developers, we own performance. As designers, we own typography. So how do you handle the tricky intersection of beautiful web typography and performant web pages?

This blog post goes over OpenType features, explaining why they’re important to typefaces, and explaining the tradeoffs they have on performance. We’ll go over how to enable OpenType features and how you can optimize your font files for the web whether you own them and serve them up through @font-face or through Typekit so you can feel confident serving up gorgeous typography on your sites.
