It does not crash plasmashell when adding the applet, but on any subsequent plasmashell launch

I installed the applet from the master branch. Using KDE neon 5.9 (plasma 5.9 required updating Qt from 5.7 to 5.7.1).

not even remember what was happening but it doesn't anymore :)
