NVidia Shield - No DTS or DD passthrough when using USB Sound Stick #1017

Unfortunately I have to open this thread again, forgive me if that's against any rules. I've recently bought an Nvidia shield and I decided to use an USB stick (Turtle Beach) to pass through DD and DTS sound to my old Yamaha AVR. Obviously it's not working and all I can get is a static. Went through this forum and it seems that lot of people have had this issue so it would be fine to fix this once and for all. Tried the following SPMC versions: 16.6.0, 16.7.1 and KODI 17.4. No matter what setting I've tried, I only got a silence. On the other hand when tried Kodi 16.1 RC2, everything is working fine just like switching a pass-through on, nothing else is needed. That means, it has to be some kind of player/driver issue as it's obvious that it was working fine previously. Is there any chance this can work correctly again, as I would like to use SPMC as my preferred player. Any help would be really appreciated.

These are the threads also referring to this issue, although it seems no one was able to provide a working solution/fix yet. https://github.com/koying/SPMC/issues/162 recommended version 16.2-0, didn't try that but newer versions do not work as stated above https://github.com/koying/SPMC/issues/947

Works for me with same config (Turtle Beach) USB stick. Had to go into the Shield settings to enabled 5.1 surround sound and switched surround to "automatic", after that, I could use IEC as passthrough mode. This only started working properly on the latest Shield Experience update (5.2). Both Plex and SPMC work and they both passthrough DTS/DD on my non-HDMI receiver.
