Add Pulse-Eight USB-CEC Adapter support #361

Currently Pulse-Eight USB-CEC Adapter doesn't show up. I think support could be added using something like Android USB host serial driver library for CDC.

This would be a FANTASTIC addition.

MrMC commented 8 years ago

cec support was removed due to a collision with an existing library.

hadees commented 8 years ago

@MrMC do you have more info on that? I've actually been trying to compile the cdc_acm for the Shield TV Kernel, if I did that would it still not work because it was disabled?

compiling is not enough, you also have to package it.

I dont see the point in this for Android TV smart TV's. SPMC is allready controllable via our TV remote when using a Android TV smart TV. Is this perhaps ment for Shield TV or other settop-boxes?

koying commented 8 years ago

Shield also supports CEC in FW, as is AFTVx and actual TV's (obviously). Most amlogic boxes also do (albeit they tend to FU the whole CEC chain).

Not clear to me which android device would actually benefit from the P8, assuming direct access to USB would be actually possible on droid in a standard way.

Don't count on me to work on it, anyway ;)

@mbooij @koying SPMC can't seem to access the NVidia Shield TV's CEC hardware so the Pulse-Eight USB-CEC is just a better supported device. In a perfect world you wouldn't need to use it but considering how messed up CEC is on a variety of platforms I think having alternative options is really important. I know since switching to a NVidia Shield TV I've had mostly a positive experience but it's been a painful regression when it comes to CEC.
