SPMC and Kodi continue to work well with HDHomerun units both for live TV and DVR.
There are a variety of ways you can work with them:
And, since SPMC is Android-centric, you can use both Live Channels and the Android client for HDHomerun independent of SPMC: https://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=119&t=33103
Unfortunately they don't work with the HDHomerun HDHR3-US
As I said, the kodi team dropped the HDHomerun protocol that permit HDHR3-US owners to stream .STRM files through Kodi.
here 's the link where they discussion the drop
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/7142
i.e "3.1 WCAX-HD.strm" hdhomerun://10334D8F-0/tuner0?channel=8vsb:521000000&program=1
It would be great to have it back in SPMC, if feasable, I hope so !!! :)
Here are some links from other owners of older HDHomerun mode, that explain the same problem with version 16 and up.

Your links above suggest alternative ways to use the HDHR3-US within Kodi.
Beyond that, you might see if you can install the latest firmware: 20160902beta3, which adds live TV in the latest HDHomeRun VIEW apps for older tuners.
Thanks for the info,
I will read the info again, given I didn't see where they were talking about others alternatives
But for sure, I will give a try with the 20160902beta3 firmware, it might be more simple
Eric
Hi, I have upgraded my firmware, unfortunately i didn't help me out. The HDHomerun View still doesn't work. The app found the hardware, but says that all tuner are in used and/or there are no channels to display.
Would you have an idea what to try next ?
Would it be possible to add the old HDHomerun protocol that allowed us in the past to stream from a STRM file, in an Add-On ? Beacause it was stream just perfect, chrystal clear picture, no lag, just perfect image from those old HDHomerun unit.
Thanks for helping Eric
You know, I paid almost $100 bucks for my hdhr3-us that you guys just shit canned. I won't be replacing it. Push That!!
I think I read mrmc pushed back support for old hdhomerun, or whatever ;) @davilla?
yea, brought it back in https://github.com/MrMC/mrmc/commit/b2fc269cd37909851ea0bb8e190896625682cccb
Some more development in adding support for older devices in hdhomerun.pvr

Not had a chance to follow up/test yet. Deep in adding native Emby client.
Hi Scott,
Is there something that we could do to help ?
Thanks, it's great news !!!
Need to see if patches work :) both pvr and core needs patching. plus hdhomerun device must be running current firmware (which can only be updated on a windows OS).
I updated the firmware. I am using nextpvr and it does work but it will not release the tuners when finished watching. It just records the live TV buffer until the hard drive is full. The HDhomerun software doesn't appear to have this issue and kodi has a HDhomerun but my tuner is not supported. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
I am also one of the unlucky folks that bought a hdhr3-us for nearly $100 years back. I just wanted to comment that I will be appreciative to anybody who brings back support for this device into their product.
I keep seeing that this product is "old". It came out in 2013 and I purchased mine in 2014. It appears from this thread that they simply discontinued this tuner for no other reason than to sell "new" tuners. So the life cycle is what? Two years? Buy a new tuner every two years or worse yet buy a more expensive one and risk them pulling support to force sales of new ones again. So long Silicon Dust.
Hi since the release of version 16 we have loast the compatibility with the HDHomerun Dual HDHR3-US, or HDHR3-EU, it still work in version 15. But it looks like the drivers, or else, have been removed from version 15 to the 16 and up.
Would it be possible to put it back in SPMC, even if it is not in KODI version 16 and up anymore. It would be great to have back the compatibility with that older model, that still work like a charm.
Thanks Eric
