Audio troubleshooting SPMC with Nexus Player #474

Hello-

I just installed SPMC 16.4.2 from Google Play on both a Shield and a Nexus Player in the hope of better reliability than Kodi on the two platforms. Everything works fine on the Shield. Audio playback through the TV is not working properly ewith SPMC on the Nexus, whereas there is no problem with audio on Kodi Jarvis with default audio settings in the same set-up.

The symptoms of the problem are VERY low volume and, I think, some distortion. It's hard to be sure of the distortion due to the low volume. I've tried many different combinations of the audio output settings. All the settings I've tried seem to have the same result.

I have also tried tried connected the Nexus to the same TV that the Shield is connected to (a newer model), and the result is the same.

Set up: Nexus Player with Android 7.0.0 TV Philips 37PFL9603D http://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/37PFL9603D_10, connected via HDMI SPMC 16.4.2

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

I had a similar issue with my Shield TV. I fixed it by going to the Android TV audio settings and toggling back and forth between letting the Shield control the volume through CEC and letting the TV control the volume. This workaround seemed to have reset an Android system level volume setting that you otherwise don't have access to. Unfortunately I'm not aware if the Nexus Player has the same CEC volume feature as the Shield, so this may be entirely unhelpful.
