As the name is SemperPax Media Center, i think it should be, SP MC or SPMC. Separating or highlighting the "S" doesn't make much sense, as in the whole it begins to sound more like S PMC.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the 1:1 SPMC logo, it's pretty good in my opinion. However, the 16:9 splash screen is pretty poor as the logo seems too 'in your face'. Something like reducing the size of the logo to be in the centre of the screen with a simple background would look decent. e.g. something like how Netflix starts up or many other apps with their logo in the centre instead of it being zoomed in.
The colour scheme from the blue could be changed to signify a refresh, since this is what Koying wishes to achieve.
If I get some time, I'll have a go and submit something here soon.
@koying
Guys, these are all great icons.
Just an idea, a little more organic, though maybe a bit clichéd: given that Chris says the SP is Latin, how about using the Roman Empire (SPQR) badge as a starting point?
Obviously the QR would be replaced with MC, and maybe even demoted, italicized or somehow differentiated, eg SPmc.
It looks like this.
Or, if you google image SPQR you'll find more bolder variants, with eagles and different leaves.
I like the idea of a "logo". So far, https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/5485902/23081995/059ce896-f560-11e6-8ef4-822e16426a1d.png is the most appealing to me, but with darker colors, maybe with ones of the "deeper" blues of the current logo as base?
@Ston3s Your idea is fine, too, but your "cube" logo is reminiscent of an existing one I can't point out right now ;)
I like @Ston3s designs and colors choice but the cube logo.
@koying Sorry for the late reaction, but I was busy with other stuff. Here my interpretation of your request for a darker/closer to original colors version. Again - if at some point you decide that this will be The chosen one - I'll gladly work with you on a final version + other necessary stuff like splash screen etc.
@koying ... a-a-and there goes also a super dark version of it, to ballance all the light versions by now 😄 :
@lllopo The middle blue looks nice. Care producing the needed formats?
@koying Sure. Easter here, so not sure about the exact timing, but will work on the rest of the set in the coming days.
@koying Ok, found some free time to work on this. There you go the whole set. Made two variants of the icon. I still prefer the one that matches the splash and banner, but if you find it not readable enough - there's an "old style" version with bigger letters. Feel free to ask for changes, if you find something not good enough.
Hi there,
some new ideas here...
next try
And this is the old/new idea. My last contribution for this...
SPMC alá Shield (green light)
SPMC alá Shield (blue light)
Doesn't anyone know a graphic artist who could lend an organic touch to this?
It's all so anodyne, like it was designed by an engineer not someone with an eye for aesthetics.
Failing that, Ston3s SPMC alá Shield (green light) concept is at least elegant in its simplicity.
@Gertbucket Hahahahhahah ... "aesthetics" is really subjective notion to say the least. For example, as a hobbyst designer and finished egoist, I find my works quite nice, of course 😄 . Also the latest by @Ston3s is a good as a concept (needs quite more work to be finalized, I think though). My point is - giving some examples might help us understending your feeling of "aesthetics", although this won't necessarily inspire someone.
@lllopo Thanks already, but could you provide 4K png or SVG, for high-quality scaling, please.
@koying Yup. I'm off, but I'll send you both, when I'm back.
Would be nice if you could think of other colors for test, beta versions... easier to keep them apart.
Looking good Illopo, my favorite by far :)
I do prefer the @ston3d work. Overall the latest version
@Gertbucket: For me is aesthetics also clearly in the senses of the Viewer but thank you for your statement to the Shield-Look Icon. No problem to finalized this logo if the people like it :)
@lllopo : Of course, this design is just a draft. Have learned after the last cube-design was very time invested and the feedback pretty good ;)
@Nehemoth: Thanks...
A comment to the last shield-design. After some hours for me ist the black background too dark. Maybe something with gray colors or maybe white also. And final a bit more shadows for the depth-feeling in the background and some glow effects for the S-Light. What you all are thinking about?
But if it there are no need for koying for an other design, I had to the design from lllopo some thoughts ;)
@koying You can download the full set here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/vceqd0chsvh4v27/Spmc.zip?dl=0 . If you need something else or some fixes - let me know.
@Ston3s Colors are good to me - this is the Shield style after all - dark colors. Also the depth effect is ok to me. But you're right about the glows and eventually a bit more elegant shape of the S-Light. Here a quick suggestion for you about the glow (based on mine mid-blue) : Yet indeed - depends if @koying chose my mid-blue as the one or other options are needed.
For your design the dark shield-look is not really my favorite. The previous version, some of the blue colors is for your logos the better choice.
Some other points in your design can in my eyes a bit better.
@Ston3s Yeah, sure - I just changed it quick to put the glows and show you how I imagine a glow should look like. The rest doesn't fit, of course. Don't look at it as whole, it is not a real suggestion. As of your suggestions - my idea is "the cross" to be strongly stylized cinema projector light going through the S cinema film. When I put the corners too close, it really looks too much like a cross. As of the slogan - it is done that way to move the ballance of the whole thing to the left and move the focus over the projectr/film combo (I also find it nice 😉 ). Still - it all depends mostly on @koying since it is mostly his call and we all do this to contribute to his project. If he says what you suggest is better - I can easily put some changes.
Hi all, could not resist! Here some more finalized Mockups for the Shield-Design ;)
Bright:
Grey (bright):
Grey (dark):
Dark:
What do you think about? Please consider that the color of the S-Light is absolutly free to choose. If you prefer green than its green when blue or some other color is better then its a color. I must only know it and than i can change it. At all, have a nice day...
I prefer the versions in the darker grey or with bright color, but my favorite is the the darker grey :)
The Dark version, oooosom'

I like the design, but far too Shield-oriented ;)
What should be different...
Well nothing. It's great as a Shield design, but SPMC is not for shield only.
Is there a way to use more icons on android? I know for iOS it's now possible ;)
What about a option to change splash screen ?
Would it be then also possible that the new apk supports icons for the Fire TV interface?
Hey @Koying,
Here are my attempts for the new graphics of SPMC. I'm joining the debate a little late, but who knows :). For the first design, I referred to the name of SPMC, Semper Pax (“Always Peace“ in Latin). The result is a dove (one of the many symbols for peace) as the main icon for the new design of SPMC.
For my second submission, I went with a “S” symbol (a little bit like Kodi with its ”K”).
Hope you enjoy it, and feel free to give me your feedback :) !
(Thanks @Ston3s for the Android TV Launcher mockup !)
Love it both...
@estoj Totally love the dove idea :)
twitter might not like it :)
Yep. Although a bit different, my first thought was "twitter".
Yeah I admit I thought the same when I made it. But I loved the idea of a dove, and it's more obvious for the icon than for the launcher preview. I can look for another background color though.
And thanks @koying! Really happy you love it!
@estoj If twitter doesn't mind, then the "dove" version is looking pretty nice ideed.
@estoj
I think Twitter might object to the dove ?
Although I'm sure not intentional, the S in the 2nd idea looks like the S that the SS used to use, just striped instead of solid.
Unless it's just me ?
Although the concept is obviously similar, the dove has little in common with the actual twitter logo, so no issue there.
@estoj Mind producing the set of resources as specified in post #1 ? It might be confusing in the post, but I'd really want very high-reso PNG or, better, SVG, for high quality rescaling.
Thanks
Hi @koying, here are the resources in SVG. The Splash and TV Banner are the same file, tell me if you'd prefer a different design for the splash.
For the license, I just want attribution and that you keep the same licensing if you remix or adapt my work (Creative Commons CC BY-SA 4.0)
Time to refresh the graphics for SPMC, and this is a call to artists. If you're interested, please submit your art here.
Honestly, I'll just pick the one I prefer, no votes or anything, but constructive comments/discussions are welcome. The "I don't like it" posts > /dev/null FWIW, I like abstract art.
Requirements are: 1) Final submissions must be in SVG (for vector) or 4K PNG (for raster). No photoshop thingies ;) 2) License is whatever you want, but I have to have the right (even if personally) to use and edit you art 3) Interim versions/previews might be whatever your want, obviously, but please be prepared to fulfill 1) & 2) before you submit
What is needed is:
Thanks in advance for your submissions.
Chris
