What's the difference or do I need both on my Shield ? SPMC-16.6.0-spmc-68a86a2-aarch64.apk SPMC-16.6.0-spmc-68a86a2-aarch64_launcher.apk

SPMC-16.6.0-spmc-68a86a2-aarch64_launcher.apk will launch automaticaly SPMC at the boot of the shield, no need to choose it on the apps field ;)

I've tried this before the launcher and it hasn't launched like it should..

Launcher version will set SPMC as Shield TV launcher (home launcher) IF it's set as home launcher with an app like Home Switcher for Android TV:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asad.homeswitcher&hl=en Root is mandatory.

-Root -Install SPMC launcher version. -Enable it as home launcher within Home Switcher app.

Done.

It can be achieved also modifying a config file but root is still required.

If you don't want to root shield TV, you can use apps like autostart to configure which app will start automaticaly when the shield will be ON ;) No need to use SPMC launcher version in this case, normal version will be OK.
