Sony xbr900e update to Android 7 audio via optical #896

After the 7.0 update on my 900e, Audio issues with my Sonos Playbase (optical) and SPMC with the plex add-on.

No more conversion with DTS to AC3 happening on the TV, audio just comes in as 'silent'

Prior to 7.0 update, DTS was being converted to AC3, which allows the Sonos to play DD5.1 - This works just fine on my XBR 940D running android 6.

I've tried all the settings, no change. This is with the Google Play store version, Should I try a different version side loaded?

Thanks.

I guess another way to state it, is that IEC passthrough seems to break all audio on Android N/7 on sony xbr 900e.

I had the same problem. I used IEC pass through with an optical cable and everything was fine until Sony/Android performed an update (PKG6.2414.0040NAA). After the update all audio reverted to Stereo. I played around with the settings and after changing passthrough to PCM I can get DD to play but not all formats (e.g. DTS, DTS-HD) like I used to. The audio is completely silent when those audio formats are being played.

@jesseking3 - When you talk about the 7.0 update, are you referring to the ATV update I mentioned above? Keen to get confirmation that it was indeed the update that broke things.

@charles-evans I'm talking about Android TV 7.0 update from Sony - Which from reading uses different api's for the audio.... So I think now that we have Android 7, SPMC needs to get updated

Using RAW on both devices allowed me to push out DD but DTS and DTS-HD would result in silence. Changing the "DTS compatible amp" to false made sound but it skipped a lot. Not sure if the Sony processor just couldn't handle the transcoding.

I wish this could be fixed. Bought a NVidia shield for now as I'm not sure how long this will take to get fixed.

Same situation from me, also my KD-43XE8096 can't be "enough powerful" to handle the DTS transcoding, especially on 4K movies. I'm using the shitty build of Kodi (that allows the "PCM hack") and waiting the upgrade of SPMC. There's no other solution at the moment, I also opened a specific issue thread https://github.com/koying/SPMC/issues/919, cross the fingers!
