Gnome removed support for tray and appindicators some versions ago. This is not bug, but feature of Gnome -_-
Anyway, I'm guessing you have some extension that restores appindicator support, which got broken in update. That's also feature of Gnome.
Ahhhh. I forgot all of that. You are correct: TopIconsPlus died with the update.
What I don't get is why some applications work without it. For example: Dropbox and Protonmail Bridge.
I'll close this, but please post back if you know?
Sadly, both of those are closed-source, so I can't check what they do, but my guess is that they communicate with some gnome-specific protocol.
After upgrade to GNOME Shell 3.34.1 (Manjaro 18.1), there is no indicator for the app in the top bar. It was working in 3.32.
