Dice Pools at Character Creation:
The Dice pools we currently have in place, should have an element of customisation to them to allow for all characters at character creation to all feel uniquely different. I would suggest 2 things.
The dice size be customisable with 3 options given to player lending to a: "balanced", "specialised" or "highly focused" character.
The number of dice in the pool to be customisable, for the best balance I think this should be linked to a separate choice in the same vein of the "balanced", "specialised" and "highly focused" options, or through a large pool you allocate the number of dice to each dice attribute pool as you wish.
I've listed an example of these three options below:
Balanced: D6, D6, D6
Specialised: D4, D6, D8
Highly Focused: D4, D4, D10
The number of dice in each pool in each pool should be calculated either based on your choice of Stat distribution, or as a separate pool you allocate from. I've listed an example of what this could look like below:
Balanced: 4 dice, 4 dice, 4 dice.
Specialised: 6 dice, 4 dice, 2 dice.
Highly Focused: 8 dice, 2 dice, 2 dice.
Alternatively you could have a pool of 12 dice that you can allocate to the three attributes as you see fit.
In addition to the size of the dice, and number of dice being a benefit I believe that when you reach a certain threshold you should gain some sort of passive benefit; such as:
Health: Gain some sort of higher calculation for working out how much health you have.
Mana: Gain a bonus to spells and or the ability to further the fusion of spells with spells, or spells with weapons, etc.
Stamina: Gaining a bonus to attacks/maneuverers when expending stamina.
Just some suggestions, but the general idea, should be a passive buff or unlock some extra feature within the game.
Dice Pool Progression:
The progression for these pools should be linked to progression system of the skills as well, a proposal for the progression of this type was to link it to gold value. So you could choice to upgrade your equipment with the gold you brought back from the dungeon, alternatively you could choose to invest in yourself and hire a tutor or a trainer to help you focus in on your skills or attributes.
However Attribute Dice Size should remain static, just the pool size should be changeable - This is if we go down the route of gold = advancement.
Whilst I haven't worked out the specific costs I believe it should go generally in this order:
Most Expensive - Attribute Dice Size > Attribute Pool Size > Skills Least Expensive
Other considerations should be made such as is moving from D4 to D6 the most expensive or the least expensive? At what pool size does the cost become equal to that of an attribute size? Workflows should be created for the progression system.
