Trackpad becomes unresponsive. Unrelated to sleep wake. #13

After a period of time the trackpad becomes unresponsive or disconnects. A restart is the only fix. Using your stock EFI with unique SMBIOS.

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

This is the same problem I get with the simpreciciani project, but that was prescribed for T460... does this kreizlie EFI support Monterey, so I try it?

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

I don't know about Monterey but I may have solved the problem at least with Mojave. Disable the track-point (Red button in the middle of the keyboard) in your BIOS and see if you have a crash or disconnect. I did that and did not have a crash after a half-day of use.

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

I will try it... and I forgot to mention: I use a Yoga 260 running Monterey 12.0.1

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Oh that's exciting to hear. I run a 2014 macBook Pro which officially cannot run Monterey but have my Yoga 260 waiting for more memory (it's unusable for me with 8GB) Photoshop freezes upšŸ¤£ How is Monterey? Do you have 16GB of Memory? Are you using this EFI with Monterey?

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

I have 8GB in my Yoga 260 and Monterey runs fine :) However, I am not using a Broadcom wifi... using Intel... which was working fine in BigSur but not so well in Monterey (interface disappears in about 1 hour). So far I am using the simprecicciani EFI. I am still getting the kexts in the kraizlie EFI folder

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Yes for me I could not get Intel Wifi working at all with Mojave. With Intel wifi any local Wifi Network will not show up at all and then it just will not connect and you cannot use wifi at all. Since the Yoga 260 does not have ethernet you're basically dead in the water without buying a USB ethernet adapter. The Broadcom card that Kreizlie recommends works PERFECT!!! I bought that card and the adapter and it's just as good as a MacBook Pro and everything works. 8GB of RAM was fine for normal tasks but as soon as I tried to do my usual photo editing, PhotoShop would just freeze like it could not figure out what to do next.šŸ¤£ I assume it was because of low RAM.

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

The kreizlie EFI did not boot Monterey... it resulted in the famous [EB|LOG:EXITBS:START] <date, time> error before even booting the kernel... and I saw that the included OpenCore is REL-059, not 0.6.7 as implied in the GitHub release.

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

So you're saying the simprecicciani EFI works perfectly it's just the trackpad freeze that's the issue?

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Btw do you have a link to the simprecicciani project? I might be spelling it wrong but I did not find anything under that name here at GitHub.

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

Yes. the simprecicciani EFI boots Monterey in the yoga 260... only change is to include alcid=15 in the bootargs. https://github.com/simprecicchiani/ThinkPad-T460s-macOS-OpenCore

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Nice one. Thank You! Please let me know if disabling the track-point works for you. I'm pretty sure that was the issue with freezing touchpad but would be nice to hear from someone else to help confirm my findings like a science experimentšŸ¤£

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

disabling trackpoint: so far, so good! 1.5 hours trackpad alive...and surviving one sleep

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

I got so excited I decided to move back over to my Yoga 260. I've been on it all day with heavy use and no trackpad freeze and everything running smoothly.šŸ˜

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

For some reason, my physical buttons stopped working, and I am left with tap-to-click and two-finger-tap to right click. The malfunction extended to the right click in Windows and Ubuntu.

But the trackpad stays on indefinitely!

Cyberfunk, if you try Monterey beware that the native broadcom might or might not be supported. Test it in an external drive.

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

My physical buttons do not work either. They worked very briefly when I first setup my Yoga a while back and then they stopped working shortly thereafter and have never worked again. It might have something to do with a config or setting in Kreizli's EFI. I don't mind because the Yoga 260 trackpad is like the MacBook pro trackpad in that you don't even need buttons and you can use multi touch gestures to replace right click left click etc. One tool I HIGHLY recommend is "Better Touch Tool" https://folivora.ai/ I use it with my MacBook Pro and it works just as well if not better with my Yoga 260 because you can also remap keyboard keys like F1, F2 and other buttons to do whatever you wish!! This program is so incredible and after MANY years using it I have still barely scratched the surface. It also does window snapping and so much more. I have mapped three finger trackpad click as "right click" and use this mod for years on MacBook pro as well. Try it out! I find it very intuitive and you have no mistakes like two finger gestures. Thanks for the heads up on MontereyšŸ˜

Yo bro I hope youā€™re around and can give me some guidance. I think I made a HUGE mistake trying to upgrade to Monterey and Iā€™ve bricked my setup. I downloaded Monterey 12.1 updated my EFI with the new OC files from the other Repo that you suggested and tried to upgrade. When the installer rebooted I picked macOS installer and the computer gets stuck on the black screen with Apple logo. I can get no further and I canā€™t boot into recovery. Are you on Monterey 12.1 and did you have to make any changes to your OpenCore config outside of what that repo suggested? Also Iā€™m still on old firmware 1.82. Do I need to update to latest Lenovo firmware to work with Monterey?

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

I am using Monterey 12.1, with only an issue with intel wifi. The EFI in the repo should have worked, but I will share my EFI with in an hour or so šŸ‘šŸ½ the installer USB will work.

I didnā€™t use a usb installer rather I tried to do an upgrade install. Was that my main problem? Is a fresh install with external usb installer the only way?

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

I trust more the external USB installs. Get the *.dmg from MrMacintosh.com and make an install USB ASAP!!

Also are you on the latest Lenovo firmware. Thank you so much for the tech support. I donā€™t have another computer so been stressed out since yesterday afternoonšŸ¤£

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Ok thank you. I will have to figure out how to restore back to Mojave and then upgrade to Monterey more carefully.šŸ˜…

robertojguerra commented 2 years ago

Thatā€™s why I always test a new macOS in a separate usb HDD

Not yet. I thought I fried my Lenovo after swapping back in my backup drive and getting no power no charging lights! I ended up getting a professional tip to disconnect the battery and that worked!!! Unfortunately I forgot to place the EFI OpenCore files on the backup drive so I canā€™t even boot the Lenovo. I have to find a shop with a MacBook to let me do some shady HackintoshingšŸ¤£ Iā€™ll never try to upgrade a rock solid build like I have with Mojave ever again. Iā€™ve learned my lesson.

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Thanks for all of your help and tips along the way and Iā€™m also so happy we solved the trackpad freeze issue which is where my crazy journey beganšŸ¤£

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Are you able to update MacOS Monterey to 12.2 with no issues? Also are you on the latest firmware for the Lenovo?

cyberfunk commented 2 years ago

Can you provide your EFI?
