Are you planning on publishing this app in the app store anytime soon?

I know a bunch of non-developers that would love adblocking software.

Your timing couldn't be any better.

I have been making something based on BlockParty. Its close to a 1.0 and the beta has just opened up for external testers.

Send me an email at krish.kumar@gmail.com and I will send the invite right away.

BlockParty would never make it to the App Store with that middle finger as the app icon. :)

There are a lot of good blockers already in the store. I don't see BlockParty entering the App Store in its current form.

What about the Mac? It doesn't seem there are many content blockers for the Mac, out there...

krishkumar commented 9 years ago

Fair enough.

alessiomaffeis commented 9 years ago

Great. Feel free to message me if you need any tester. ;) Just dropped you an email.

Thanks @alessiomaffeis.

I don't know if TestFlight can be used for the Mac App Store. I'll check and set something up.

BTW, I've just realised you can't distribute Safari Extensions through the Mac App Store. The closest thing is the Safari Extensions Gallery.

krishkumar commented 8 years ago

Yes Safari Extensions Gallery is separate from the Mac App Store and is the only channel for distributing browser extensions. Here we are trying to publish an app that does the exact same thing on both platforms. But things are so different between the two app stores.

krishkumar commented 8 years ago

The Safari extension is available now. Details here - https://github.com/krishkumar/BlockParty#how-to-install---os-x

If this works okay, I am considering publishing to the Safari Extensions Gallery.

The Safari team seems to have listened to the community's feedback. They have streamlined and standardized development and distribution of Safari extensions through Mac App Store. It is very much like iOS now.

Great! Good for discoverability.
