No text/details displayed on HTC Incredible S #4

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installation on HTC Incredible S (Optus Branded - Melbourne, Australia)
2. Install, set up details
3. Lock (turn off, or reset, or wait for timeout)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- expected lock text, but none

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v2.2 on Android 2.2

Please provide any additional information below.
- may be due to HTC Incredible S UI? I'll find time to look at the source code, 
but could be months from now ...

I dont see the lock text on Droid 2 (Motorola A955) with a stock Android 2.3 
Gingerbread OTA update.

I also found that if the phone is rooted, the message shows up on the lock 
screen.
