Will not sign into Gmail

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Enter email address
2. Enter password
3. Click backup

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expect it to start 
backing up my sms messages. It gives a message that it can't sign in. Says make 
sure Imap is set and it is. Says verify userid and password. I have done that 
and even rest it.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? I don't 
know the version but i am using Andriod OS.

Please provide any additional information below.

Hello
got same issue, downloaded version from google play 1.1.1  and it cantdownload 
msgs witherror that make sure that imap is enabled and check your user name and 
password, 
both username and pw are correct and the imapis enabled in gmail
