How to enable the Writing Practice

So I downloaded the deck from the git hub and I downloaded the deck to Anki. However all I can see is the recognition part. How do I enable the writing practice for Anki PC, Web and mobile?

Do I need to download an add on?

Platform Anki 2.1.66 OS Windows 10 Pro

I have the same issue. Writing practice doesn't work. I tried both qt5 and qt6 version of anki, same result.

Hi, I have just found and installed this deck but nowhere on Anki Desktop and Anki on Android I can see the writing practice for the characters. Do I need to install additional Anki Addons ? I have installed Chinese Support 3 and Maobi but still not working...

There are 3 types of cards. One is for meaning, one for pinyin and one for character practice. Make sure you complete at least 10 cards first, you will probably come against one of those character practice cards.

Anki maobi is different and it is not connected to this deck. There are five card types, during first review 20 cards shown, the writing part will come up in last five card during review. Also, other card types can be deleted to have only writing practice.

Just to clarify, this is what i get when a question about characters comes up. I am still on the first 20 cards indeed.

I have installed Anki today so it's the latest version and I also installed the latest version of the deck.

Apologies if I am missing something, hopefully there isn't an issue at all.

Ok I think I see the problem, I am not looking at the right type of card. So just to confirm, when a question of Card Type 4 comes up I am supposed to imagine (or write somewhere on my own) the character and if Card Type 5 comes up then it's practice time ? I haven't had Card Type 5 yet so that's why....

So I checked and I already have the Anki MaoBi addon installed.

The writing still doesn't pop up, it's still only recognition.

I have the New HSK 1-9 installed and the maobi deck installed too.

Also is there any way to separate the maobi deck into HSK levels?

Okay my question has been answered I guess. I was able to get it to work after you sorted it by deck types.

Also I'm wondering how to customize the cards shown in the deck? Is there a way to do that without having to go though all of them. Sorry for all the dumb questions.

If you want to customize the notes data like Simplified, Traditional, Pinyin, Zhuyin and Meaning then it can be done in Card Browser, but if you want to customize the look/design of card then it can be done in Card Template editor.

So I found out how to get only writing and rec cards. 1) Install maobi add-on. 2) Install the very first deck. I'm referring to Deck type one. https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1351435439 Here's the link to it. 3) If you downloaded the right one, you should see that the cards are separated into four categories.

HSK X cards a) audio b) pinyin c) writing d) meaning

If you see the cards organized in this format, you downloaded the right deck.

4) Delete the ones you don't want. For me, all I need is writing and meaning so I only kept those two.

Writing this down to document the steps I took to install my setup.

One other thing I'd recommend is to somehow be able to save the settings for the cards because each time I start Anki up, it doesn't remember the settings I choose.
