Summary
The idea is to provide the same level of production usability as JIRA, while remaining free, and open source.
Motivation
There's an impressive lack of an open source alternative for the popular JIRA project management tool. Although the presence of alternative tools is not the main problem, the access to the project's source code is, as expensive plans are to be paid before even thinking into customizing the JIRA board to your automatization needs, and free options wouldn't think about offering customization or self hosting.
This is what used to happen on the 3D art community before the Blender project originated. Work related tools shouldn't be available only for those who can pay for it, even less among the programming community.
Team
Estimated time
Completing a finished distributable self hosted product would take from six to twelve months depending on the minimalism achieved by the UI/UX design process.
Internal Adoption strategy
We could use the platform as the official internal platform for project management, as it would never cost us.
Implementation of a Carbon Ads slot on the hosted product could help regain resources for its hosted service.
There are several other open source products that we should diverge from this idea of creating dashboards with production ready features.
