As we build our new design guide, we should be explore other style guides, as exemplars. Pattern Lab's Resources is a great starting place, with the Style Guide Round-Up being a large curation.
I looked for style guides that were more substantial than merely listing patterns, their HTML/CSS, and their general usage. The following exemplars showcase both best practices and rationale.
One discovery from the Style Guide Round-Up curation is a spreadsheet that lists the presence of certain patterns found in various style libraries and boilerplates. We can use the list of ~200 patterns in Column A as a starting point for identifying and comparing to our own patterns and reference the associated projects for their particular implementations. It was created in May 2013 by Tyler Sticka and announced on his employer's blog. It is unknown how frequently it is updated, as the revision history is hidden. But it's a lot of work for a single person to maintain, so I doubt it will be updated much without community backing. It may be valuable to duplicate this spreadsheet into a Kuali Student Google Doc, in case this source reference is lost.
