Hi. Could be possible to hide/disable any menubar icon/text?
It would be nice! Thanks a lot!

I see there's support in the current SVN for hiding the status bar text, but
there's
a note suggesting that it shouldn't be used as there's no way to re-enable. I
guess
a system prefpane is needed? I'd love to help, but I've never done any
development
of this sort before and it'll take me a while to get up to speed. In the
meantime,
here's an update to ScottALyons' patch that applies cleanly against the current
SVN
(rev. 29).

It might make some sense to use the shift key symbol for the status bar icon (
⇧ ). The text doesn't really fit in with the rest of os x and the general
standard for status bar icons.

I agree with mark, ShiftIt should be a preference pane with the possibility to
hide the menu bar icon.

I don't agree with making the preferences a pref Pane. Imho it's much more work
for
the developers.
An easier approach is if ShiftIt is hidden - Relaunch a second time from Finder
and
this opens the preferences were you can reenable the menu bar Icon.
"applicationShouldHandleReopen:hasVisibleWindows" from the NSApplicationDelegate
Protocol should be the right function for this approach

Patch attached.
This enables ShiftIt to handle Application reopening.
Meaning, if the Application Icon is hidden in the Menu bar (or not) and the User
ReOpens the Application, e.g. from Finder or from Spotlight - the Preferences
Window
will open and the User can choose to display the program again in the Menu bar
... or
make other adjustments
Regards

masch82: now that I've become a little more knowledgeable about prefpanes, I
see your
point about complexity for developers (and deployment) and agree that your
solution
sounds like a good one. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but I support it
in
principle.

I really, really, really want to change the menu text to the icons attached
below but I have no idea how to do it.
Would I have to download the source and recompile? Would someone please provide
the necessary step by step
instructions or a recompiled version? Thanks in advance.

Did you mean ScottALyons' icons or another set that you meant to attach?
I've attached a version that integrates masch82's patch and
Aleksandr.Pasechnik's suggestion.

mark.jarvin: Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love your icon selection by the way.
I'm not a fan of colorful icons in my menu

I created an icon a couple of months ago, but I'm not sure how to integrate it
into the application. I took a look through the package contents but couldn't
figure it out.
Anyway, feel free to use it. I've attach the Illustrator file and a PNG.
Thanks for the patch @mark.jarvin, it works really well.

Love the app but really dislike the menu-text, it is often hidden because I
have too many other apps running in the menubar. How can I install the patch
that is submitted here so it will display with an icon instead? Can someone
provide a binary that I can install? IMHO this should be implemented in the
official version also.

Work perfectly for me with Snow Leopard and Lion.
Check for update is disabled.

Here, I made a version including the neat little arrow icon that the above
poster made. I really like this version. 😁
