Wrong selection after inserting symbol pt. 1 #475

Steps to reproduce

Observed After insertion, the caret is positioned before the inserted symbol:

Expected After insertion, the selection should wrap the inserted symbol.

Created #477 for the remaining cases, and closing this one for the Ampersand case.
