The Kubeflow Community is growing! On Thursday, January 5 (@ 8am PT), the Kubeflow Community will host a short, 30 minute Welcome Meeting for new contributors. Please consider this your formal invitation if you would like to take the first steps into becoming a Kubeflow contributor. Kubeflow has many components and attendees will receive simplified instructions on how to join the Community, and how to get answers on the process.

@johnugeorge @zijianjoy @kimwnasptd @andreyvelich I think joining Kubeflow (as a contributor) can be simplified if we provide instructions on where to start. I have tried to outline those in the slide deck (below). My view is that we should try to get Contributors into a WG meeting as their 1st step (as they might get bogged down on other steps i.e. signing the CLA). In the WG meetings, we remind them the meeting is covered by the code of conduct (so hopefully they will review that..and start on the CLA) but perhaps most importantly, they will introduce themselves. Please note that in the slide deck, I have added pictures of you (as I think this adds a personal touch... so they can recognize the WG leads). I am interested in your comments in the process and how to improve. I am trying to get this ready for 1st call in early Jan so that we capture the folks who made a New Year's resolution:) Happy Holidays! thanks.
Hello @jbottum , thank you so much for putting together the slidedeck and establishing to process for new contributors. I believe community will greatly appreciate it! The slides look good to me, I agree that joining WG meeting is a good first step. However, if I remember correctly, I think they will need to first join https://www.kubeflow.org/docs/about/contributing/#joining-the-community to be invited to the WG meetings.
@zijianjoy Thanks, I have added a bullet on the checklist (page 10) with that webpage. BTW, I think that page may be too long for 1st time contributors. I think it could be broken in two at this link (i.e. Your 1st contribution), https://www.kubeflow.org/docs/about/contributing/#your-first-contribution,. This might make it faster and simpler to get started.
That is a good point to breakdown the contributing
web page to two sections. @jbottum Thank you!
This material was delivered and the meeting was recorded.

The Kubeflow Community should welcome new members and provide a simplified way to get started. I am proposing that we develop a short welcome meeting agenda (30 minutes) and run that meeting at times that will be convenient to potential new contributors.
IMO, we need: 1) An Agenda 2) some content 3) schedule
It is easy to get overwhelmed by the Kubeflow docs and I think we help new contributors to connect with Working Group or Team leads as quickly as possible. Perhaps a next step (after the welcome) is to join a WG call(s) using our calendar invites....and join slack and join GitHub, and sign the CLA, and read the COC, and...
I would like to have the first meeting in early January. Please let me know if you would like to contribute to this effort. Thanks.
