Just discussing this w/ @rajaskakodkar .... @anusha94 might be interested... there was some feedback at recent presentations that were given to them about this topic:
With the userspace proxy merged, we now could prototype a service mesh that used KPNG as its logical data model. a rough way to approach this might be, do some r&d on our existing proxys and service meshs... and then try to use our existing "service mesh like" behaviour (in the userspace proxy) to explicitly build a programmable proxy impl in kpng .
In general if we were to implement, a few service mesh like features in KPNG, it would be a great demo for new adopters to learn how they could use or extend KPNG for custom service-proxying scenarios.
