Currently, the pod-descheduler supports the following modes of deployment/operation:
All those modes will attempt to acquire (list) and process all the pods (eligible via configuration and RBAC).
Operating "sleep-run-sleep" poses significant challenges when operating in large clusters with large numbers of pods (1000-100,000, etc.).
It would be a significant improvement if the pod-descheduler supported a "controller" mode with pod-watch functionality and evaluated every changing pod against the configured policy(ies). Such a mode would address the challenges above, although it may require (I suspect) a substantial code reorganization.
