Access annotation for Ingress #1841

Closed Timoses closed 2 months ago

Timoses commented 3 years ago

What would you like to be added: Private access annotation for Ingress source.

Via #1310 it became possible to use the annotation external-dns.alpha.kubernetes.io/access: private to set the A records to the internal IP addresses of nodes.

This should also be available for the Ingress source.

An Ingress source annotated with external-dns.alpha.kubernetes.io/access: private should use the cluster nodes' internal IP addresses for the Ingress' hostname.

For example

apiVersion: extensions/v1beta1
kind: Ingress
metadata:
  annotations:
    external-dns.alpha.kubernetes.io/access: private
spec:
  rules:
  - host: mysvc.cluster.int
    http:
      paths:
      - backend:
          serviceName: mysvc
          servicePort: 80
        path: /

should create the DNS record

mysvc.cluster.int <node_1_internal_ip> <node_2_internal_ip> ...

similar to how it is done for Service source.

Why is this needed: Services of type NodePort require using a Kubernetes node's node port range in order to expose the service on a node's interface. Ingress controllers (e.g. nginx) may be configured to already serve an Ingress on a Kubernetes node's interface(s). The only missing part is a DNS record pointing to the Kubernetes nodes' interface with the internal IP of cluster nodes.
