Docs site should integrate Kustomize repo examples #3974

Open KnVerey opened 3 years ago

KnVerey commented 3 years ago

We have a lot of great documentation content, particular examples, that only lives in various places in this repo and is not very discoverable. The Docs site should pull examples from the repo, and some of the content should probably move to the site entirely.

I'd recommend adopting system that doesn't require a build like https://kpt.dev it allows people to browse MD files directly on github as well as through a nice JS interface. The MD files can be linked directly to the examples:

example: https://github.com/GoogleContainerTools/kpt/tree/main/site/faq has a link to kustomize solution that goes directly to the folder: https://github.com/GoogleContainerTools/kpt/tree/main/package-examples/kustomize

https://kpt.dev/faq/ does the same.

If we end up relocating the site to be built from the Kustomize repo, perhaps we could use something like https://github.com/campoy/embedmd to embed examples directly into the site build.
