Approve funding request for LWKD newsletter publishing #6930

Closed jberkus closed 1 year ago

jberkus commented 2 years ago

Describe the issue

LWKD is a publication of Contributor Comms. The publication supports the kubernetes community by helping our large population of contributors keep up with changes to kubernetes/kubernetes, as well as being a news channel for announcements targeting contributors.

It gets published several ways: (1) Twitter (2) Discuss.Kubernetes.org (3) website (4) Direct email. The last mechanism is done through Buttondown.email, an independant competitor to MailChimp, which is cheaper and more suitable for our publishing workflow (buttondown understands markdown).

We are currently at 937 subscribers to the direct email version, which puts us close to the free account limit of 1000. We would like to convert this to a paid account, which is currently $9 per month.

@jberkus: GitHub didn't allow me to assign the following users: nikita.

Note that only kubernetes members, repo collaborators and people who have commented on this issue/PR can be assigned. Additionally, issues/PRs can only have 10 assignees at the same time. For more information please see the contributor guide

+1 from me too!

One option you can consider is https://www.getrevue.co which some LF projects use (integrates with twitter which can be a pro/con)

Anyways, whatever you use we can happily cover it, this stuff isn't widely pricey.

@caniszczyk I talked to Kristi Tan, and she said CNCF doesn't yet have a newsletter service ya'll have settled on. So the plan is to go with Buttondown until something supported by the organization comes along.
