Have you changed the Kubernetes version in build/hyperkube.sh ?
Unfortunately, it must stay 1.5.
Hmm... or maybe the env variable K8S_VERSION set to 1.6?
My K8S_Version was set to 1.6 as I was working on other stuff. Deleted all images and containers, reset my environment and the hypercube container dies with the log $nsenter: failed to execute ./hyperkube: No such file or directory
I think there is something wrong with your environment. Most likely you build your own container with missing binary. Attach to the container and check if the binary is inside. Hyperkube container is deprecated anyway.
You can use any kubernetes cluster for development. You can use minikube, kubeadm or similar to hyperkube container: https://github.com/Mirantis/kubeadm-dind-cluster
Can't exec/attach into the container since it stops automatically. I was able to use minikube and build/deploy the dashboard through that way. This shouldn't be an environment problem as the code uses google hyperkube container and that is what is not starting it doesn't build anything. https://github.com/kubernetes/dashboard/blob/e2a87f2c6c6cb6e9832a2d7343c55a3b0f1713f5/build/hyperkube.sh#L31
Since hyperkube is deprecated it should be removed from the code here and switched to something else.
I would normally just close this as I have found a solution (not using gulp local-up-cluster) but I am leaving it open for the team to decide whether or not this should be closed since it is an issue, or maybe open a new issue all together since the original problem was an environment setting.
I have one more idea. In the docker run command I merge the host file system with the container file system. Maybe this causes issues. Can you try this old version:
It creates k8s container without merge. In case this is the issue, please post name and version of your linux distro. Anything else special (like AppAmore or something)?
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.11.6
@cheld I think that this might be mac related issue as @timothyjosefik stated in first post that he uses one.

We'll leave it open for now. Maybe @maciaszczykm could test this when he'll be back because I don't have mac :)
I can only confirm that it still works on Ubuntu 16.10. We'll migrate from hyperkube eventually. @cheld has done some investigation in this matter already.
Ahhh :o)
I have tested it and it is not working like @timothyjosefik pointed out. We will be moving away from hyperkube as it is already deprecated and we are using it only on our CI for tests. Currently I was not able to find quick fix.
I am going to close it, you can track our progress of moving to somethig what is working in #1710. There is no point for us to spend a lot of time on debugging deprecated tool, we will try to do it other way.

Logs from kubelet Flag --api-servers has been deprecated, Use --kubeconfig instead. Will be removed in a future version. Error: unknown flag: --config
The kubelet binary is responsible for maintaining a set of containers on a
particular node. It syncs data from a variety of sources including a Kubernetes API server, an etcd cluster, HTTP endpoint or local file. It then queries Docker to see what is currently running. It synchronizes the configuration data, with the running set of containers by starting or stopping Docker containers. Usage: kubelet [flags]
Available Flags: --address ip The IP address for the Kubelet to serve on (set to 0.0.0.0 for all interfaces) (default 0.0.0.0) --allow-privileged If true, allow containers to request privileged mode. [default=false] --allow-verification-with-non-compliant-keys Allow a SignatureVerifier to use keys which are technically non-compliant with RFC6962. --alsologtostderr log to standard error as well as files --anonymous-auth Enables anonymous requests to the Kubelet server. Requests that are not rejected by another authentication method are treated as anonymous requests. Anonymous requests have a username of system:anonymous, and a group name of system:unauthenticated.
