On my own preview images I use color coding for prefabs that makes the map much more pleasant to the eye and provides some underlying information. I suggest using a color code based on the prefab tags on the Xs for the prefabs on the map.
Alpha 20 stable mixer uses the following tags to control zoning:
gateway: POIs on the city connection to the intercity roads
oldwest: "feature" town
rural: outlying POIs in cities and towns
countryresidential: residential POIs in country towns (the smaller towns aside oldwest)
countrytown: non-residential POIs in country towns
industrial: industrial POIs in cities and towns
downtown: downtown POIs in cities
commercial: business POIs in cities and towns
wilderness: wilderness POIs
There's one other tag that is not used by the mixer, but relevant: trader.
