Issue with .fon Font Not Displaying in Windows 11 #5

Hello,

I recently installed the font from this repository (specifically the s8514fix.fon file). While the font appears to be installed correctly and is visible in the C:\Windows\Fonts directory, it does not show up in any applications on my Windows 11 system.

Here are the steps I followed:

  1. Downloaded the font from the repository.
  2. Installed the font by right-clicking and selecting "Install."
  3. Verified that the font file s8514fix.fon is present in C:\Windows\Fonts using the program TreeSize Free. It is not listed there by default.

However, the font is not listed in any application that supports font selection, including text editors and word processors.

Additionally, I attempted to convert the font to .ttf format using FontForge and other tools, but the conversion process seems to remove special characters such as äöü´€.

It seems that .fon fonts, being bitmap-based, are less supported in Windows 11 and modern applications, which typically require vector-based formats like .ttf or .otf. A .ttf version of this font would be highly desirable.

I am using the version of the font with fewer characters and I really like it. However, it would be highly desirable to have a complete version of the font, especially with support for German characters.

After you install the font in the .fon format it should be listed as @Fixedsys (at least in gvim). As for the missing characters I'm afraid it's because Windows 11 somehow broke the font which is something we can't really fix unless we make a custom version of the font itself which is something that might happen in the future but we can not promise anything. If you're interested, 8514oem.otb works much better on Linux.

Firstly, thank you for your response! However, that’s precisely the issue:

It appears that .fon fonts, being bitmap-based, have limited support in Windows 11 and modern applications. These applications typically require vector-based formats like .ttf or .otf. Having a .ttf version of this font would be highly desirable. Since I primarily use Windows and not Linux as my main system, the current font isn’t quite suitable for my needs. If you were to create a custom vector-based version for Windows, that would be really cool!
