Configurable pad of shortcuts to several windows of blue #366

PROBLEM: Right now, as I follow a modular approach in my instrument design (BSB-Instruments with widgets) and as I usually have plenty of instruments in the list of instruments in the orchestra window, I do have to modify parameters of several Instruments to modify one sound: Not just the sound creating instrument, but also the instrument that controls the spatial environment, the instrument for the envelope generator and maybe another one for external modification of parameters and one or two effects. Usually I keep scrolling up and down to find the current instruments on the list, select them and be then able to modify parameters. Also I have to access the ScoreObject editor window or the automation data of one specific instrument to modify parameters there, too

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Maybe something like a small configurable pad of shortcuts to several windows of blue might solve my problem. That universal pad might contain not only user-configurable shortcuts to several chosen instruments (GUI or code) but also to windows of specific ScoreObject editors and tables, probably to the BlueMixer too. If undocked, it would hover above all other windows to be accessible right away any time. Like an artists palette configurable by desire, it might hold the shortcuts to be chosen by the user.

Thus it would be possible to switch between the currently most actively used instruments with just one click on those buttons/shortcuts/tabs. I guess that would speed up my work a lot and would allow more direct and thus intuitive style of workflow.

A couple of thoughts:

  1. I wonder if the design of the orchestra could be simplified?
  2. Rather than a pad of shortcuts, I was thinking maybe of some kind of "Groups" system. Maybe one could choose to create group, get a list of instruments and select them, then the group would show as an entry in a dropdown list that has "All" as one of the options (which would be what it is now with all instruments showing).

Dear Steven,

thanks for asking. As far as I can see my environment can not be simpified without having other drawbacks. But your suggestion of groups sounds like a fairly good solution.

Best wishes,

Jan Jacob

Dear Steven,

I have been thinking about your idea of a group system for the orchestras. If here could be several configurable groups at the same time and one could easily choose among them it would be perfect, I guess.

Thanks!

Jan Jacob
