RS232 Transceiver and Programming #4

Can you confirm the RS232 Transceiver BOM? If U1 is indeed a MAX3221 (which is not easy to source) would SN35C3221EPWR work in its place?

Also, does the RS232 circuit connect directly to the Serial port? What shell commands are needed to program it? Can you add a bit more documentation.

Thanks for the link to the documentation. I got a few boards printed and assembled one with the IC mentioned above. Would it be safe to try?
