Akuity, which is the team behind ArgoCD, has created a new FOSS tool called Kargo that provides most of the functionality provided by this action with a better UI/UX, so I'm considering adopting that for my own CI pipelines as a replacement for this action.

my 2 cents. Kargo is a cool tool BUT it forces you at the moment to adopt ArgoCD. In order to do a promotion that this action does quite simply you need to leverage two different tools and adopt them. Not always ArgoCD and Kargo are needed to achieve easily promotion.
