ssh'ing to a server shows the password

Steps to reproduce:
ssh to any ssh capable server
When the terminal asks to for the password type in the password and watch it be 
displayed.

Expected result:
use types in password without seeing what they are typing

OS & browser info:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0

Additional info:
The password will disappear from history after it is accepted. Not sure if that 
is by design.
