Makefile: add helper recipes to clean trailing whitespaces and check if there were not changes compared to git #61

Also includes a big "noisy" commit to clean up existing codebase so its evolution can avoid such noise in future PRs :)

It may make sense to set up some CI integration in Github and make check the new PRs to avoid introducing the annoying whitespaces from now on :)
