Hello,

I am curious if there will be any attempt to have "image awareness" built into 
the system?  I can imagine how it might fit into the rule system, associating 
the figure text with the figure images.

I may see if I can implement something that will just take the output of 
lapdftext and use it to extract the images, maybe using PdfBox.

Yes there are plan to address the issue of image extraction. We encourage you 
to attempt the problem the way you have indicated. I would be happy to discuss 
this further.
