Sorry, but the browser tool is deprecated. Maintaining a good browser is not
the scope of IEP. If you want one, you can make one yourself based on QWebView.

Almar, it doesn't need to be good browser. But just working, is enough.
Your tools all the IDE is perfect, but for teaching beginner it would even
be perfect if got browser that connected to Python doc./manual.

Why not use Firefox/Chrome (or even internet explorer)? These are available on
any PC.
What do you think is the specific use-case for a browser inside IEP?

That's different. You need to switch here and there from IDE to Browser. That's
not a small different. Often, we end up playing around in Facebook, or twitter,
or anywhere else the place we should focus on.
So far. The solution only is Eclipse. Eric being overkill complex. Eclipse
okay, but need to install additional plugin (PyDev and the Web something
plugin). And, Eclipse is slower.
In the other hand, the interface of IEP is so clear. Faster. Got the python
interpreter right inside the window. Just missing 1. For intermediate/advance
user, this feature might be nothing. But for beginner: they often go to web to
consult. That's the python official documentation.
Adding a working browser might only satisfy our selfish need. But, it might
helps those like us. :)

I mean... the python shell interpreter.

And the thing is that.... interpreter in Eclipse, is not interactive.
Our choice is actually only in IEP.
We are open waiting for this improvement, IEP.

Would it be fair to say that the main use case is to browse Python
documentation?

Yeah. That's actually the main goal.

Perhaps this should be formalized as a "documentation browser" tool then.

Yeah.
Documentation browser. Will it exploring the python documentation? will it
updated and synchronised? Because in our opinion it would be easier to
implement a built-in simple browser.
Note that. In order to make the window available like one in attachment, there
are multiple steps need to be taken, and it would certainly confused beginner.
IEP + Integrated browser (or integrated documentation) is really the
dream-comes-true answer for our community. :)
