Bug: incomplete prefered name results in incorrect display name

A new member fills out the application form and puts legal first, last and preferred first name. An existing member gets a “new member” email but the email only has a first name “John”. They expected to see a first and last name so they go to kOS and see both a first and last name and also a preferred first name but not a preferred last name.
