Distorted audio with Audient iD4 MKII USB audio interface #714

Description of the bug With the Audient iD4 MKII USB audio interface selected as the audio device, using Background Music causes all audio output to become distorted (crackling + pitch shifted). Same issue as seen in #699 (which was using the MOTU M4)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Connect Audient iD4 MKII USB audio interface to MacBook. (Ensure Audient iD Application is installed and up to date. Software available here: https://audient.com/products/audio-interfaces/id4/downloads/)
  2. Set Audio Output to Audient iD4
  3. Play back audio in an application (e.g., Google Chrome.app, Spotify.app) to verify audio is working properly.
  4. Launch BackgroundMusic.app
  5. Ensure Audient iD4 is selected as the audio output from BackgroundMusic menubar item
  6. Play back audio again to confirm sound is distorted.

Versions

Hardware

Debug logs No relevant debug logs (only info-level coreaudiod messages)

Other notes I've tried bouncing relevant drivers, applications, and rebooted MacBook in safe mode to clear caches. Problem still persists.

Same here with Audient iD44 mk1, Background Music 0.4.0 macOS Monterey 12.7.1 Mid 2015 MacBook Pro 15" i7 model iD Software 4.3.4

probably has to do with the way the Audient driver handles (or communicates) sampling rate settings.
