Week 2

Check-In

I Need Help With: I need much more time to focus on JS. I have not had much out of doing the exercises from the suggested study and for me the reading material is very heavy, even watching tutorials has been a bit tough.

What went well? I really try to hang on to Codecademy because I feel like there is a direction I am following. JS has sooooo many different aspects and it is very overwhelming trying to overcome all at once. When I study with Codecademy everyday I feel like I am going somewhere, but feel like I still have very far to go

What went less well? Eventhough I had quite good time to study I feel like I have been a bit all over the place. When there is something I have a hard time understanding my brain shuts off and it has been doing that several times these past 2 weeks. I find it difficult to ask for help in this subject because where to start asking when it is more or less everything that is still a mystery.

Lessons Learned I know and feel that I will come to understand this in time, but time is exactly what I need.

hey @sannesofie don't rush it too much! It's impossible to know all of JS in one or two weeks (would be cool though) 🙂 You will be using JS for the rest of the curriculum so I'm sure it will come in time! Focus on one topic at a time and don't hesitate to ask questions!

When you're stuck or have a hard time understanding try ask for help even though you don't know exactly what the problem is. The coaches can figure out together with you what it is exactly that you need help with and explain. We are here to help you guys, take advantage of it 🙂!

@arnochauveau Thanks for the encouragement ;) I will be better at asking for help.

@sannesofie, what's been difficult about the exercises in suggested study? anything we can do to make them more helpful or approachable?

And like Arno said, there is no rush to learn everything! The next two module are all about JS basics and practicing your programming and problem solving skills before moving on to harder projects.

@colevandersWands For me it still feels a bit like swimming in the deep end. I am trying to understand the very basic of JS so for me move the dot exercise was ok but I have no clue why I was doing it or how it relates to JS. Also what is the meaning of tracing, maybe I did not see that part in the study, but I did it a bit on the Sunday we last were at class but no clue really what it was I was doing. I think at the moment there are a lot of lose ends that are hard to keep track of and I am sure with time it will make sense, but it is difficult to explain when you do not understand yourself 🤪

Would it help if we had a little call to go over this? I can help you get oriented and we can find a way to make things more clear for others in your place
