Learning Objectives

1. Design Thinking

[x] 🥚 User Empathy: You understand what user empathy is, and can use it to understand a classmate's needs and help them plan a home page.
[x] 🥚 Design Cycle: You will be able to describe the design cycle and what steps you will take in each state (Empathize, define, ideate, prototype, testing and implement).
[x] 🥚 Double Diamond: You can separate the design and deliver phases of a project. Design and delivery are a never-ending cycle, but it helps to be clear when you are focusing one or the other.
[x] 🥚 Stakeholder Interviews: You can interview another student to learn their motivations, needs, and blocks
[x] 🥚 Rapid Prototyping: You can use rapid prototyping techniques (such as paper prototyping) to test initial design hypotheses and receive user feedback.
[ ] 🥚 User Journeys: You can write user journeys for websites that you use.

Week 1

I Need Help With:

I would appreciate any tricks of how to design a web site faster. I spend a lot of time on thinking the design since I really care about it.

What went well?

Learning about UX design from videos and thanks to Carme and Benjamin!
Paper prototyping. I was having fun doing my prototype and tasting it on my friends and family. I also was able to get a feedback and adjust my prototype based on it.
Figma account set up and review. I was playing around to learn the basic features of Figma.

What went less well?

Everything went well this week!

Lessons Learned

Focus on one problem. Users are in the centre of all we do as web developers. Figma is much more complex than it seems at first sight.

Sunday Prep Work

Figma set up. Watching videos about Figma and UX.

@MMikhailova I am not sure there are any magic tricks to make designing faster other than a lot of practice 🙂 of course, in terms of UI design, there are some guidelines that can be implemented for composition, color, contrast, etc. but as usual, rules are to be broken, once you know them..you can also try to use style guides (e.g. Material UI by Google or Airbnb https://airbnb.design/building-a-visual-language/).. for UX, you can check out this fun site: https://lawsofux.com/

Week 2

I Need Help With:

I don't need help with week since there are a lot of materials provided for us so it's enough for me to get familiar with UX/UI concepts.

What went well?

I've studied materials provided for this module, practiced Figma more. I also practiced stakeholder interview with my husband in order to develop a homepage for his work.

What went less well?

We have not yet managed to meet with my partner for the assignment since she was abroad. The end of the week is very busy for me so I hope I will be able to perform the assignment on time.

Lessons Learned

Stakeholder interview is very important in order to understand what is really expected from the future site.

Sunday Prep Work

Started preparation for JS module.
