all right. what if i told you you can lose the weight you want without changing what you eat or your portion sizes. well, you can.
a trendy new weight loss method, it has been gain a lot of buzz recently, and it is called intermitten fasting. Im dying to talk to you about this.
it's not so much about what you eat. it's about when you eat during the day. it's about cycling between periods of eating, and plain old not eating.
now some experts say that this helps consumers ~taking~ take in fewer calories, lows your blood pressure, improves glucose levels and even slows down the aging process.
I know, there are number of variations how you can do this, called IF, intermitten fasting,
On one option, you can eat only between noon and 8 o'clock each day, which means you fasting for 16 hours a day.
another option has you eating 4 days out of week and fastign the other 3 days.

hi. yes. I am dying to talk about this ~second?~ segment. I read this article in wall street journal and it talks about all the benefits you can get from this potentially not just weight loss, but this is journal reporting after speaking to the exports,
people slept better, they thought they are more enegertic throughtout day, time sure prodiuce cellular repairing in your body, breaking down toxins, as well as coloring ?? and food, repair damaged dna in skin, and reduce the risk of breast cancer.
so many things.
so that's the journal citing the experts. explain first how you started this program.
I am someone that tried everything. i did everything from jenny craig, i went to the gym five to six days every week. I did weight lifting. I did meal prep. you name it I tried it. I did it consistenly. and it just never stayed with me. it never stuck. ended up doing yoyo.
and then i heard about IF, i remeber googling it. and it was very intimidated by because when you did search two years ago, a year and a half ago, man with six pack of abs, and that's not me.
and then i watched bbc documentary about it. and saw the science behind it, study behind it. it became really facinated.

So, you don't eat monday, wednesday, friday?
That's my schedule currently. So, intermitten fasting is very flexible and i know no one here you don't fast or fast three days a week they get...
I'm out.
Yeah. what are you doing? you're crazy. So I don't actually push anybody, I just do my thing...
so what's been happening is i've been sharing my story on social...
it's intriguing because the good news is that the other four days a week you can eat what you eat.
they're not saying go to McDonal three meals a day but what they're saying is you can eat what you want, you don't have to be dieting.
but walk us through how it is to fast because i can't even go 5 hours without eating i get hungry?
my staff will vouch for that. I just can't imagine going even a full day in my three week.
that's normal. that's not meant to be easy especially when you get started. first weeks are tough i was very hungry.. i didn't realize i would be able to get through the first two weeks. i told anybody that it's intereted in IF give 2, 3 weeks. cause that the time takes to build a habit. and so the first week or two is more of a mental challenge. now I love it.
I'm out.
walk us through ~ = instruct someone in a process by carefully demonstrating or having them perform each and every step
vouch for ~ = say that ~ is honest, true, or good
more of ~ = used for describing the importance of a quality that something has

I actually look forward to fasting. that's crazy it sounds, i look forward how it feels.
think of it this way. when you eat, sometimes it feels lethargic, you feel full, you feel tired,
now you imagine the the opposite feeling.
when you wake up you feel energized focused, have mental clarity feel great.
that's what it feels like ~the~ to fast.
does wine count as food?
on the days of fast, you say, you can have a little cheating?
so, it's not cheating. I call it a crutch? especially someone who just started.
so when I got started, and the bbc documentary talks about this is while, when you're doing 36 hour fast which is what i do, having a 500 calory crtuch is available to you.
so it's to help you get through a day. sometime you need it, sometimes you don't.
it could be a couple of broccoli, it could be some omen? it's just to get you through that kind of hunger...
but if you go on a 500 calories on your fast day, it transitions into a eat day.
and then at that point, i tell my firiends and their friend, eat well.
count that as a eat day, don't count that as a fast day really really important that when you are doing ~it~ yout eat day, you're eating well.

also with us today, nutritrionist Zoey Bower and Cardiologist? weight-loss expert Dr Luiza Petrey, so thank you all so much being here.
Zoey, let me ask you here. Is this safe?
First I want to comment you because you've done an amazing job and you look super and I know your insides are probably doing amazing things as well.
It is redicuously hard. And you've converted this into life style. I think the majority of people would not be able to follow the way that you are.
But there's another variation we spoke about and they talked about in Wall Street Journal that's very interesting.
You eat for 12 hours. And don't eat for 12. That sounds more doable.
It's a window of eating 12 hours. So if you start breakfast at 8 o'clock the morning then you finish your dinner at 8 o'clock in the evening.
What I like about this obviously you can shift it depending upon your schedule. you can start it 9 am and end at 9 pm.
what I like is that most people excessively nibble in the evening. We have a ~bit~ big problem with that.
So that takes it off the table and it make you more mindful.
I think even if people just do this as a one week experience, a 12 hour eating window during ?? each and everyday, it a great learning..
Here's my question for you Dr Fitzen. We've always been told, don't skip breakfast, don't skip, because you're body believes it's going into starvation mode, your metabolism slows down, you gain more weight if you starve yourself.
well thre is a saying that you should have a breakfast like a king. and that's a for a reason. and that for a reason your body is trained to process food more during the day.
your body makes those digesting engyme and hormons, they are matched to be optimzied in the morning.
So it is important to do this eating period somehow to match part of the morning. If you do eat 7 oclock or 10 oclock..
But aren't they slow your metabolism by not eating?
absolutely not. it's been shown and studied that it takes absolutely 72 hours for your metabolism to slow down.
