Black screen on load then return to system menu when loading games with WiiFlow #557

I softmodded my Wii following at the end of March last year without any
problems. The Wii system software version was 4.2U, I downgraded it to 4.1U. I
put the backups of games in Iso or Wbfs format under the x:\wbfs folder in the
my WD My Passport 1.5TB which is formatted to ntfs. I had some problems loading
some games using WiiFlow, got the DSI exception error. So I updated to the
current version of WiiFlow at that time following this guide to install it
(https://sites.google.com/site/wiiflo...alling-wiiflow) and this guide to
install the d2x cios (http://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/wiki/How_To_Install).
After that every game ran just fine. I did not play in my Wii for a month or
more after that.

A few days ago, I tried to play some games but none of them play anymore. I get
a black screen and return to the system menu after some time. I tried loading
some games from my Transcend 64GB Jetflash500 flash drive and also installed
the latest version of WiiFlow (4.1.2) and still get the same problem whether I
load it from HBC or from the forwarder channel. I have installed WiiFlow a few
times already but it does not fix the problem

I tried with v9 of d2x cios but still get the same problem.

I can run games from the SD card but not from my external hdd anymore.

Another thing is that my external hdd is now almost full. But more than month
back when all games ran it was almost half empty.

I have the same problem. I tried both USB ports on my WII U. It takes me back
to the system menu after trying to load Mario Kart WII U or WII the Sims 3.
What is also odd, is when I hit menu and try to rip my super smash bros brawl
WII disc , it says not enough space on that. Also, when I try to manually copy
an ISO to the D:\ i.e. my external HDD when it is attached to my windows PC it
says not enough space. Something very odd going there with the format. It is
definitely a FAT32 and EaseUS Partition manager shows that it does have free
space..

I'm having the same issue and I'm running the latest Wiiflow as of now (4.2.1).
Could it be the new update and downgrading would fix it? I'm using the right
USB port but my games just DO NOT load and give me an eternal blackscreen
before I have to force my Wii to shut down. I use a Kingston 13GB DataTraveler
by the way...

Any suggestions?

I heard flash drives over 4GB does not work. Did you try with a USB hard drive?

Well, I've been using this flash drive with Wiiflow since the very beginning
and it's been working until now. I've decided to a little experiment and
downgrade to Wiiflow 4.1.3 and my games are now playable just like they were
before.. Maybe there's a bug in the new Wiiflow version they need to address...
?¿?

Thank you anyways, if I have anymore problems regarding this issue I'll be sure
to stop by here first!

Same problem of "@zerounde.." here, I´m using the latest cIOS for de vWii, and
the latest Wiiflow (and other loaders)...
I even own a USB 3.0 Y-cable for HDD but I can´t launch games from my HDD. I
can see the games, their banner, chage their options but when i launch them my
WiiU go blackscreen and then return to the Wii menu...
I can only play from USB flashdrives

I have tried all the combinations of this "tutorial" with no success
https://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/wiki/How_to_choose_d2x_distribution

I have forces the three cIOS and even the startup cIOS of Wiiflow
:c ... I will keep trying

I was able to launch Wiiflow both from HBC and forwarder, but I couldn't play
games due to black screen.

I followed #11 advice, and now I can't even launch wiiflow. Black screen,
segfault, reboot. I doesn't help reinstalling the channel nor erasing and
copying the wiiflow folder again. It just won't launch.

I have the same issue with some USB drives. It works fine on some drives and
not on others. I've had it work and not work with multiple sizes of drives.
I've tried reformatting, (FAT, NTFS) and using different block sizes. Some
drives just aren't working on the Wii. They aren't slower than the drives that
work, they just don't load wii games. As others said, GameCube games and
emulated games will load, wiiflow will display covers and can fully utilize the
disk. It just can't load Wii games.

Here's a wiki list of "usb devices."
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List
There seem to be mixed result from different users and it's not complete, but
may help when choosing a USB drive to use.

If your wiiflow is broken as #13 said, delete the save data from the wii
settings menu.

Wiiflow worked fine until an accidental Wii system update. Now, when I attempt
to load a game the Wii tries to read a disc, as if the game disc was inserted
and gives me a black screen. Anyone else have this problem? Probably not eh?
