I have this issue too. This it's because it does not have GTK 3.20 support
Also, a question to maintainers: Is there any progress over this?
@Freemason-12 Per the README, I don't actively fix the theme, but I will test, accept and package community contributions.
If it helps as a work-around, I have a process here to recolor existing themes. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/vs48zi/tips_tricks_for_ubuntu_unity_remix/

You seem to solve the issue for the light theme only, just by recoloring the existing Ambiance (and not Ambiant MATE) into green. How about dark version of it then?
Unfortunately I don't know how to create a dark theme, but it's possible this would work recolored. https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1013462/
As far as I remember, I tried it before and it didn't work (((
Somewhere in the transition from the original Ambiance theme to the Ambiant-MATE themes, Unity support became a bit lackluster. With the advent of projects like Ubuntu Unity Remix and the continued maintenance of Unity 7, it might be an idea to bring the Ambiant-MATE themes more in par with their original counterpart to provide more use outside of the MATE desktop. Most of the current errors are visible in the window decoration, but there are some other oddities (barely readable font in the Unity panel when the mixed Ambiant-MATE theme is selected, for instance.)
(Pictured: an example of the strange titlebars)
I believe that the bulk of these issues can be fixed by examining the difference between the gtk-widgets.css files in Ambiance, Radiance and the Ambiant-MATE themes.
