New Node Buttons Not Intuitive or Comprehensive #94

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
The first two new node buttons on the Tree Toolbar consist of the
following, with the following behaviors:

Insert new tree node: Adds a new node at the same hierarchical level as the
currently selected node, but before the currently selected node.

Add new tree node: Adds a new node at the same hierarchical level as the
currently selected node, but at the very end of all the nodes at the
current hierarchy level.

There is an important behavior missing. There needs to be a button that
adds a new node at the same hierarchical level as the currently selected
node *and* right after the currently selected node. This can be instead of
or in addition to the second button ("Add new tree node") as described
above. Frankly the behavior of the "Add new tree node" does not seem very
intuitive or necessary, so it makes sense to replace its behavior with the
new behavior, but even if this button is kept, a button with the new
behavior needs to be added as the second button.

Thanks for you opinion. Well, your point of view seems logical, and we always
have
the possibility of pressing End to go to the last node and then press Enter to
add
new node after that.
But this is a very old behaviour, and many users will be accustomed. So, before
doing
any modification I would like to know what others think about it.

Probably, I will end up making that change..

I am fine with having an option in Tools -> Configuration Options to add /
delete
buttons from the toolbar as in the Firefox toolbar. I am also fine with having
the
old behavior as the default behavior. Just give me a way to change to an
intuitive
configuration.

I dont think we should clutter the toolbar so much, next thing you know you
will have
buttons for adding a new node to the same level of the parent of the selected
node
before and another button for after...

Maybe an option to change the behavior of the first button, something like:

When inserting a new node:
    - Insert BEFORE selected node [X]
    - Insert AFTER selected node [ ]

we should check the windows design guide and see wich one is the expected
default
behavior (if anyone has it, could you send it to me?)
