-What tile size do you want for these statues? -I assume that even when coming to life, they are still bound to the statue's base. -When they come to life, do you imagine they gain color and then fire some sort of projectile, or do they have other functions?
The base should be ~32px wide and then however tall makes sense, though the footprint would probably be ~24-32px tall. Yeah, the statues won't move locations when coming to life. They would gain color and animate some sort of cast animation. The lightning statues summons lightning bolts and the flame statue summons waves of fire. The frost statue throws an ice grenade which is the only one that comes directly from the statues. These are the current effects in game, so if you want to test the boss, you can just load up the game to see the current attacks, I don't have plans to change the attacks at this point.
Here are the current placeholder graphics. These are basically the right width, but the final ones can be as tall as they need to look good. In this example the bottom right has "come to life", although the others don't look as much like stone as I would like in this example.
The boss battle for the War Temple dungeon are three smaller versions of the elemental beast statues that start stone and periodically partially come to life and attack cast spells on the player. They also have a broken state when they are defeated but other statues remain. The top part of the statue should be broken but emitting energy and periodically casting spells for the rest of the battle until all the statues are destroyed.
