I have had this issue a few times, but it is really annoying now. A majority of the time I can't even use my wallet because the app wont show up. When I run it, the exe and java show up in Task Manager, but no way to interface it.

ghost commented 10 years ago

I figured out how to get out of this, and it is clearing out its data in the Roaming folder with a backup of the .wallets, and then restarting and putting the .wallet back. However, this is really annoying to do.

Yeah sorry, know issue but I can't reproduce it. Works fine for me and there is nothing strange in logs either.

ghost commented 10 years ago

Odd. I figured out the only file I need to remove when this happens is the config file, maybe that is part of the issue.

langerhans commented 10 years ago

That fixes it for some, but not all users so far :/

ghost commented 10 years ago

This isn't related to the issue, but I need your help with something. I finally became un-lazy enough to switch my new laptop from Windows 8 over to Linux. I remembered to backup my wallet file, which is encrypted with a password that I don't know which was stored in a keypass database.

The database was stored on the cloud, according to microsoft, but when I went on SkyDrive, it was not there.

I know you have a lot of knowledge on how this application works. Do you think you can forcefully decrypt the wallet? I think it was ~30 characters with capitals, lowercases, and numbers, which may pose a problem though.

langerhans commented 10 years ago

Nope, no way. Encryption is not something custom. You'd need to crack AES to decrypt it. Without the password, you'Re completely out of luck. The only thing you could do is trying to restore files from your HDD but only in case the wallet itself was not encrypted.

FYI: Windows 8.1 user here; I've noted that MultiDoge occasionally launches off-screen when you've been using a multi-monitor setup and had it on a non-primary screen. Basically, it opens itself on the non-primary monitor's screen space even if that monitor is not available. There are ways of getting it back on-screen, of course. Perhaps this was your issue as well; it loaded but didn't show up because it was "off-screen". I have been able to successfully avoid this issue by just always using it on the primary screen only. Perhaps it is remembering it's previous session's screen location and doesn't account for changes in monitor setup between sessions.
