LT suggests 'been' and 'being' as replacements for 'were':

The questions about who the fat technicians really are were not necessary.

does a comma between "are" and "were" help?

@SkyCharger001 , yes, if there is a comma, the warning does not appear.

But, the message says that there is a possible agreement error and there is no agreement error.
